ORIGIN •Jazz originated in the late 19th to early 20th century as interpretations of American and European classical music and African slaves

CHARACTERISTICS The characteristcs are: have - Swung rhythms -Walking bass - Singing with no sense syllables instead of words - Accompaniment on the piano -Stabs – usually on brass The style have a little bit of African traditional music.

Famous Jazz Singers Lena Horne Louis Armstrong Best known for his trumpet playing, Louis Armstrong was also a talented jazz singer. His warm, raspy voice delighted audiences, as did his often-humorous scat singing. Lena Horne got her start as a member of the chorus line at the Cotton Club. She was featured in several films throughout the 1940s.
