Early Childhood Update

Goal: Each student enters kindergarten at age five socially, emotionally, and academically prepared for success.

Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot

Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Tool: Key Ideas Provide a snapshot of where children are upon entry into kindergarten Include communication (language & literacy), problem solving, motor, and social emotional areas of development Engage families and caregivers in gathering information about their child’s development and early childhood experiences

Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Tool First statewide collection window began August 1 and ended September 20. As of October 2, programs entered 21,838 ASQ-3 screenings and 21,341 ASQ-SE2 screenings for children ages 5 years and older. ASQ-3: 1,963 screens for children under the age of 5 - 21,838 screenings for children 5 years and older ASQ-SE2: 1,577 screens for children under the age of 5 – 21,341 screenings for children 5 years and older A total of 706 programs completed 22,918 ASQ:SE-2 Screenings and 23,801 ASQ-3 screenings, for a total of 46,719 screenings.

Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Tool: Next Steps Collect feedback and share best practices to facilitate strong family engagement and participation. Analyze data and communicate results to better understand development of Kansas kindergarteners. Continue development of professional supports to effectively utilize ASQ data at the classroom, school and district level.
