Ensuring Success through Assessment – Connect Assessment to Objectives

Why should the verbs in a learning objective be observable? Group Discussion Why should the verbs in a learning objective be observable? Preview Lead a discussion on the prompt. Be sure to finish the discussion with this answer: A learning objective must be observable in order for the teacher to be able to assess it. In other words, you must be able to see or observe the action in your students to know whether they have achieved the objective successfully. "Know,' "learn," and "understand" are not observable, so you cannot measure them. Now let’s see how we can connect our assessments to our objectives.

Video Play the video.

Backward design means to start with the desired outcomes and to plan instruction that helps your students achieve those outcomes. The desired outcomes are expressed as your lesson objectives. True False Review 1 Have participants read the sentence and respond to the prompt. Answer: True

Ask participants to share answers and type them on the screen. Possible answers: Monitor students’ progress. Restate objectives into questions (Can students...). Do quick checks while students are practicing. Prepare a plan for more practice if students are not making progress achieving the objective.
