Young learners of English are full of energy and very active. The classroom management tips in this video will help you use these characteristics to your advantage so that you can create a fun but orderly learning environment.

Keeping young learners on task and engaged is an ongoing challenge. Let’s take a minute to share some of our experiences with managing classrooms of young learners.
Ask participants to find a partner and respond to the prompt. After three to four minutes, ask a few participants to share a challenge they or their partner had.

Review
As you can see, there are many reasons why classroom management is important when working with young learners. Let’s see if we can remember a few from the video.
Divide participants into groups of three or four. Ask them to discuss the prompt. Ask one member of each group to share a reason. Type the responses on the screen.
Possible Answers: young learners are energetic, easily distracted, egocentric, ruled by immediate desires, sometimes rowdy, unable to self-manage their learning, etc.
You may ask the group to clarify what “egocentric” means (focused on their own needs/desires) and stress the importance of teaching cooperation.
