Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system awareness Training
Larsen and Toubro-Meter Installation, Customer Indexing Project Introduction Project owner: EESL engaged in Supply of 5 million Electricity meters from Genus, ITI, Keonics and Zen meter across UP and Haryana. EESL – Supply of 5 million Smart electricity meters Larsen and Toubro-Meter Installation, Customer Indexing Smart meters Genus ITI Keonics Zenmeter Telecom Network Vodafone Cloud Provider ESDS HES Schneider MDMS LTI (Oracle)
Objective of AMI system To fully automate the process of meter reading and provide billing determinants to CC & B without any human intervention. Faster detection of metering abnormalities, theft and Meter faults. Monitoring and profiling energy consumption of consumers. Provide load profile data. Facilitate Load forecasting and Demand Response Initiatives.
Mechanical meter vs Smart meter Smart homes Mechanical meter vs Smart meter The "smart" meter can be utilized to: Read the meter both locally and remotely (on demand) As a sensor Remote limitation of the throughput through the meter to control demand Interconnection to premise-based networks and devices, remote control of meters within home Remote provisioning of services (e.g. Security) The opportunities are endless… Allow customers to have fun with High tech products the way they were meant to be .... Control almost anything: Lighting Security Systems Thermostats Remote controlled devices Home controls Traditional/ AMR meter Manual/ Automated reading Interface Utility database Smart meter Gateway AMI Infrastructure How Smart metering is different from Traditional metering

Head End System Head end System: A common HES is deployed to read all makes of meters(IS15959-P2,IS16444). Raw files received from different types of meters are processed through the respective API utility tools and converted into XML file. Also, health status of all the installed modems, communication logs and events are captured in HES.
Meter Data Management System Meter Data Management System (MDMS)-Oracle : MDM is the central repository for meter data and maintains interval data, event logs , register data & outage history for all the connected meters. The MDM system has a facility to upload meter data read through CMRI. This facility is used to manage the data of meters not covered under AMR. MDM validates meter data as per predefined validation rules to ensure that only correct data is sent for billing. The MDM system provides many useful MIS reports
Meter Data Management System The MDM system has following functional elements - Data collection, aggregation and analysis - Validation, Editing & Estimation - Report generation and status reporting - Event list
Integration Method Middleware : The SOA is used for integrating HES, MDM and CC & B New meter creation or deletion is done in CC & B system which is communicated to the MDM through the middleware.
Communication -Last mile connectivity & related issues Selection of communication technology < Speed < Reliability < Data Security < Cost ( Capex + Opex ) GPRS was selected as the best option on the above parameters for All Customers. Meter protocols Intelligent Modems are deployed which collect meter data using API API are provided by Meter suppliers. Modems collect data from meter at 15 minute interval & stores the same in its memory. The data is pushed every midnight to HES.
Integration Approach Integration with Billing system < Billing data is collected in MDM. < MDM does data validation < SOA Middleware is used for pushing data from MDM to CC & B Sharing meter data with customers < Customer logs on to Customer Web Portal through internet. < Customer portal pulls meter data from MDMS
