SLOVAKIA

Slovakia is a landlocked country in central Europe Slovakia is a landlocked country in central Europe. It is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary. Slovakia's territory is mostly mountainous. The population is over 5 million and comprises mostly ethnic Slovaks. The capital and largest city is Bratislava. The official language is Slovak while the official coin was the Slovak crown, but today there is euro.

BRATISLAVA CASTLE A famous castle in Slovakia is the Bratislava castle that is situated in the capital. The castle was built in the tenth century and is the place where the parlament does his work. In the castle there is an history museum and a national museum where there are some painting and sculptures from national artists.

DEVIN CASTLE The Devin Castle is situated in Devin and its location was perfect for a fortress. The owner could control the Danube commercial street. After its building they added a byzantine church, but in 1809 the castle was demolished from Napoleon.

WOODEN CHURCH In Slovakia there are nine famous wooden churches. Really important is the church of Saint-Francis of Assisi, it’s a Roman catholic church situated in the village of Hervatov.

CARNEVAL In Slovakia, the carnival begins at the epiphany and ends on Ash Wednesday. In this period the people eat and drink a lot and they go wild. This are cold days, they go out rarely, so people have fun playing games, singing and reading some stories. The last three days they don't go to work and they listening to music all night.

BRYNDZOVE’ HALUSKY There are a lot of typical dishes. One of this is bryndzové halusky, is made with salt, potatoes, flour, bryndz and bacon. It’s usually match with a cup of acid milk. Every year, in a small town they organise a festival that is a championship of cook and an hearty meal of this dish.
