5 Basic information - The official language is Slovak. - Most people speak Slovak, but in some regions people speak also Hungarian, Polish and Ukrainian. - Slovakia is a landlocked republic in Central Europe, it doesn’t have any borders with the sea. - Slovakia features interesting natural landscapes, mountains, deep caves, medieval castles and cities, folk architecture and ski resorts.

6 Mountains  High Tatras - Vysoké Tatry, an area whose natural beauty makes it one of the most remarkable recreation areas not only in Slovakia but in the whole Europe.  Among other things, the High Tatras offer exceptionally clean air and unique climate, leaving every visitor feeling better, especially those who take advantage of the many health spa treatments available.

8 Capital city  Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. You can find many historical buildings and places there. Most famous places are: The Bratislava’s castle, The SNP Bridge with a café “ufo”, Martin’s doom and Michael’s gate. On the Bratislava Castle you can find a historical museum with many historical things and facts.

11 Culture  The cultural possibilities in towns and in the countryside are very different. It´s because more people live in the cities, but not in the countryside.  People who live in East Slovakia like folksongs. East Slovakia is famous for folk music festivals and parties.

13 Typical food  There is no real "Slovak cuisine", that would be known and used all around the world, like the Chinese or Italian. However, there are meals that you would encounter only in Slovakia  Potatoes, wheat flour, cow and sheep cheese, cabbage, onions and garlic are the bases of the traditional food in Slovakia.  Pork, beef, chicken and fish are the most popular meats. Less frequently one will be offered lamb, goose, duck, turkey or venison.

15   Slovakia is not a big country but there are so many places to go. For example the nature is beautiful and traditions, too. You can see our country in the pictures but the best way how to get to know it is to go and see our Slovak natural and cultural beauties.
