World War I & World War II

Objective I will be able to identify the sides of World War I and World War II and what the impact of these wars had on the world.

World War I During the 1800’s, the world experienced a rise in Nationalism, which is loyalty to the country you live in rather than just to the land you live on. This new rise of nationalism also came with new treaties and alliances which required countries to aid each other in times of war. As the 1900’s began, high tension in Europe between enemy countries broke with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and the two warring countries – and their allies – went to war. It was called the War to End All Wars.

Video Time! Follow along and answer the questions as we watch the video.

World War II When Germany suffered defeat at the end of World War I, their country was in ruins. This allowed a charismatic – likeable – leader to rise to power and lead them in a new direction. This leader was Adolf Hitler. Meanwhile, in Asia, Japan, feeling insulted by the Western World, created a plan to create a new age of prosperity in the East and began to take over the surrounding countries. In 1940, Germany and Japan became allies. World War II had begun.
