Competition was in the form of military build up Each power wanted to be the strongest, so they increased their military Militarism

Alliances - Secret Countries formed alliances for protection and strength - If one country gets attacked, the others will get involved Triple Entente - Great Britain, Russia, and France Central Powers - Germany, Austria- Hungary, and Italy

The Spark Tensions were building between Austria- Hungary and Serbia over who should control certain areas Austria-Hungary’s rising leader, Archduke Ferdinand was shot and killed by a Serbian nationalists This was the spark that started WWI

The alliance system was put in motion when Russia joined Serbia Germany helped its ally Austria-Hungary WWI officially started in 1914
