Interpretation / Interpret (noun) (verb) Objective: SWBAT 1. describe and illustrate the word “interpretation”. Draw: 1-2 sentence caption explaining the drawing above: Better ideas for the further understanding portion? Further Understanding: How does this vocabulary term relate to reading a text?

Interpretation [Noun] Objective: SWBAT 1. describe and illustrate the word “interpretation”. [Noun] One explanation or understanding of a concept/idea/specific work that has multiple meanings. There are different ways of thinking about ideas; how you decide to think about something and how you view it, is your interpretation. In English class there are often no “right answers” --- rather how you evaluate and analyze a text is important. How you explain your ideas is determined by your own interpretation. Interpret [Verb] To translate an idea, a text, a piece of art, so that you understand it and that it is meaningful to you. Do you have a better way of thinking about this concept?

Let’s go back to the Do Now. Objective: SWBAT 1. describe and illustrate the word “interpretation”. What were your interpretations of the painting? Which of these ‘stories’ are correct? Why? This slide might be better fit directly after the do now as an introduction to the lesson.

“Take care, and do not forget that ideas are also weapons” –Subcomandante Marcos What is your interpretation of this quote? How does this idea relate to how a person interprets something? Objective: SWBAT 1. describe and illustrate the word “interpretation”.
