Male Reproductive System

External Genitalia Scrotum and Penis

Internal reproductive organs Testes – contain highly coiled tubes called seminiferous tubules where sperm form Epididymis –stores sperm where they gain motility Vas deferens – tubes goign from the epididymis to the urethra Seminal vesicles – makes 60% of volume of the semen contains mucus, amino acids and fructose. Prostate Gland – secretes fluid that is part of the semen contains enzymes and is alkaline Cowpers Gland – produces a clear fluid to neutralise any urine in the urethra before ejaculation

Seminiferous tubules Where sperm is produced through meiosis Interstitial cells are scattered between the tubules which produce testosterone and other male hormones (androgens)

Scrotum Fold of skin that allows the testes to sit away from the body as sperm production can’t happen at normal body temperature. Approximately 2 degrees C lower than body temperature.
