The European Solidarity Corps What is the European Solidarity Corps? The new EU initiative, which creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects that benefit communities and people around Europe What are the objectives? To provide young people with opportunities to be engaged in solidarity activities while improving their skills and employability To enhance the engagement of organisations in solidarity activities To respond to societal needs and foster solidarity in Europe

Timeline of the European Solidarity Corps Announced by Jean-Claude Juncker on 14 September 2016 Launched 7 in December 2016 as part of a package of measures for 'Investing in Europe's Youth' Proposal for a dedicated legal base on 30 May 2017 Entry into force of regulation foreseen for January 2018 Aim: 100,000 participants until 2020 3

How does it work? Registrations of young people and organisations Registration via a dedicated webpage via the European Youth Portal. Organisations can search for candidates and offer them placements. Participants will receive a Corps Certificate after finalizing a placement. Registrations have been rapidly increasing Over 30,000 registrations to date top 4 nationalities (IT, ES, PT, DE), mainly age range 21-25. Many young people have been contacted and have received offers First placements have already started Which organizations can participate? NGOs, national and local authorities, private companies etc. All organisations will have to comply with high quality standards and subscribe to the European Solidarity Corps Charter. 4

The first phase has started Eight existing programmes support the roll out of the European Solidarity Corps in the first phase Volunteering placements Mainly based on the European Voluntary Service (EVS) under Erasmus+ living expenses such as food, accommodation and pocket money, as well as travel and insurance will normally be covered. Occupational placements Jobs, traineeships, apprenticeships (only in the first phase) Implemented by two 2 Consortia (2 PES as lead applicants: IT, FR) Budget: up to EUR 14,2 million for up to 6,000 placements within the next 2 years All participants will have an employment contract (or a written traineeship agreement). Occupational placements will be paid by the employer. 5

The European Solidarity Corps in the second phase (from 2018) Types of placements: Volunteering (individually or as a team) Jobs Traineeships Solidarity projects set up by young people Other activities: Networking activities, training opportunities, certificates Organisations: subscribe to the Charter and apply for quality label Sectors: education, social entrepreneurship, environment, disaster prevention, agriculture and rural development, health, culture, sport etc. Geographical scope: EU 28, domestic and cross-border placements Duration: up to 12 months Participants: 18-30 years (registration possible at age of 17) 6

Management structure in second phase (from 2018) Budget: EUR 341.5 million for 2018 – 2020 Mix of indirect and direct management Erasmus+ National Agencies in MS: accrediting organisations with Quality Label, awarding EU grants; European Commission: develop overall strategy and monitor; EACEA (Commission Agency): horizontal services (e.g. online training, insurance); European Solidarity Corps Resource Centre: certification and documentation of skills; 7
