CO2 Capture and Storage Potential for Reducing CO2 Emissions from Fossil Fuel Power Generation Increased Reforestation CO2 Consumption Given that fossil fuels will remain our primary energy source for the next 50 to 100 years, we must find ways to capture and contain the carbon dioxide produced by mankind. Increased reforestation can help as trees use carbon dioxide in photosynthesis and produce oxygen. Carbon dioxide can be injected into depleted oil and gas reservoirs, resulting in both increased recovery of hydrocarbon and reduction in atmospheric carbon dioxide.
