Contraception vs. Church

Prevention of conception or impregnation What is Contraception? Prevention of conception or impregnation

Myth/Fact Many women do not want to use Contraceptive injections because they believe that they cause cancer.

Some men and women who seek family planning do not want to use male condoms because they believe that condoms are not effective in preventing pregnancy.

Contraception has many health risks such as, illness, infection, disease, cancer in men and women.

Can Contraception save lives? People living with HIV/AIDS in 2009 = 33.3 million Between 100,000 and 150,000 American women become infertile (unable to ever bear children) each year because of STD-related infections

Promoting contraceptive and condoms use among youth can lead to decreases in morbidity and mortality due to unsafe pregnancy, abortion, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV/AIDS. Contraception can Reduce the risk of many diseases and abortion, it can also save lives now and in the future.

Church and Contraception The Catholic Church forbids the use of barrier methods of contraception such as condoms and treats emergency contraception such as the morning-after pill as a means of abortion. The Church’s policy was reemphasised by Paul VI encyclical letter ‘Humanae Vitae’ in 1968. “The transmission of human life is a most serious role in which married people collaborate freely and responsibly with God the creator.”

World Contraception Day (September 27th 2011) That is not the Life I wanted!!

Should the Catholic Church provide finance for large families and treatment for those infected with HIV/AIDS if they do not use contraception? Discuss!!!
