2 minute discussion Share with your table which of these you most agree with and why: A) Classroom organisation and resources for teaching are a world apart from 100 years ago. B) When you think about it we haven’t changed that much really.

Why use them? Question: What use is a hand-out? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Define jargon Permanent record of essentials provide background or detailed information e.g. statistics, which are not readily available elsewhere put forward a point of view or strategy as model Set or clarify tasks provide a case study for problem solving or discussion

More why… provide a complex diagram rather than students copying from projection; give step by step guide to a task- e.g. lab work outline the session with a series of bullet points per topic area summarise key points of a session or theme

What does it include? Info- e.g. reading lists Tasks- worksheet or quiz Summary of session or central theme Resources needed for specific task- e.g. photos/ quotations Gapped- i.e. part task/ part focus tool

Problems and issues- Quality – Accessibility Note taking - inhibitor? Concentration - reading ahead Attendance - ‘it’ll be in the hand-outs' Others?
