What is Computer Crime? Identity Theft Cyber-Bulling Hacking Copyright Infringement

Do’s and Don’ts of the Computer Never talk to strangers on a computer network Messages Boards, Facebook, and Twitter Never respond to messages or boards that: Suggest something improper or indecent Obscene, filthy, or offensive Hostile, combative, and very combative Threaten to do harm or danger towards you or another

Tell an adult right away if you come across information that makes you feel uncomfortable. Don’t give out any personal information about you or your family in a chat room. Never meet someone in person that you’ve met online.

What is a hacker? A hacker is someone who breaks into computers to read private emails and other personal information. Examples: Medical information Budget information Grades Contact information

Hackers can delete or alter your computer files How important is it that data in computers like your term paper, a letter, your bank records, and medical records, not be altered? How important is it for a pharmacy to not have its computer records hacked? What would happen if a hacker altered the chemical formulas for prescription drugs? Is tampering with computer files different than tampering with paper files?

Hackers cause victims to spend time and money checking and re-securing systems after break ins. Hackers steal telephone and computer time and share unauthorized access codes and passwords. Can hackers crash systems?

Computer Pirates Computer pirates steal property which is the physical expression of ideas contained in songs, books, plays, movies, and computer software. Copyright violations have civil and criminal remedies.
