Graphic Communication National Design Elements

Line Graphic Communication National Lines can be used in a variety of ways in a layout; Vertical lines Horizontal lines Diagonal lines Zigzag lines Curved lines Lines can organise your page, direct readers from one piece of information to another and to create mood.

Space Graphic Communication National The Element, Space, refers to the area within, around, above or below an object or objects. Space or White Space gives your eyes a visual rest, can form negative and positive shapes, create depth through overlapping, and allowing enough space for text, helps you get your message across.

Value Graphic Communication National Value, also sometimes referred to as tone, is the relative lightness and darkness of an object. Value is also used to create the illusion of space; areas with high value contrast come forward while those with low value contrast recede into the distance. Value can be used for creating emphasis and depth.

Colour Graphic Communication National Colour is always important in design. From cool colours to warm colours, harmonising to contrasting, each aspect is important in the mood you are trying to convey.

Texture Graphic Communication National Texture refers to the surface quality. We associate textures with the way that things look or feel. Everything has some type of texture. We describe things as being rough, smooth, silky, shiny, fuzzy and so on. Texture may be used in a work of art to: create visual interest or a focal point, to create contrast and to help visually balance a design
