NCDA & the Coalition for Career Development - @ 2015 NCDA is the leader in career development, nationally and internationally Standards for training and credentialing career development practitioners Resources and personnel to provide training and consultation

School Career Development Advisor Training & Credential

What is it? 160-hour training course which provides standards, training specifications, and a path to credentialing. (Method? A flipped classroom using a version of Moodle) (NCDA’s FCD and SCDA training) Success is determined by completing: Readings and activities in the manual Field work activities Activities in the instructor interactive sessions s\ Enables completers to apply for the Certified School Career Development Advisor and Certified Career Services Provider credentials with the NCDA Credentialing Commission

Course objectives: 1. Use the internet to identify and use career information resources to assist students with career decision making and to access and interpret employment trends and labor market information 2. Describe and assess how to apply career development theory to practice 3. Demonstrate competence in the understanding, administration, and interpretation of career development assessments

Course objectives: 4. Assess participant’s areas of strength or weakness relating to career development by utilizing the appropriate assessments 5. Learn and apply criteria to analyze career development programs 6. Apply knowledge and learnings to work as SCDAs by examining case studies, field work experiences, and text assignments

Why? Learn how to build relationships with business and employers Know how to use and interpret labor market information to plan programs, select curricula, and educate stakeholders Cover 12 key career development competencies - plenty of opportunity to build skills and knowledge in areas that are new, as well as enhance those that are use every day as an SCDA.

How the assignments help SCDAs Personal career & reflection journals, discussions + projects Role plays and practice Work Application Project and presentation Assessments Exposure to new resources and current career practices While learning how to do this for our “clients” SCDAs, in essence, became participants in the process themselves. Each topic has an assignment for practice and application.

Career Launch has been established under the leadership of Governor Dennis Daugaard to increase student awareness about career opportunities in their communities and help meet South Dakota’s demand for a skilled workforce.
