Safety Stuff

Turn off the power before leaving a machine.

Hearing protection and safety glasses Know where your sparks are spraying Hold grinder firmly with both hands

Keep the shop clean of scraps and litter.

Trash Trash goes in the trash cans or waste cans. Not with the scrap metal!

Scrap metal Electrode ends (stubs)go in scrap metal bins or barrels. Welding coupons go in the scrap metal bins or barrels.

Oily rags and materials go out side in the dumpster only.

Disconnect power from machine tools before performing maintenance or adjustments.

A chip or break like this is very unsafe and could cause personal injury. Replaced the disc Grinder discs Any time the reinforcing mesh is showing like this…Replace the disc Whenever you need a new disc, get one from Mr.E

STORAGE & INSPECTION Abrasive wheels must not be stored where they would be exposed to high temperature or humidity, water or other liquids or where they would be subjected to physical damage from falling tools or materials. Before new abrasive wheels are used they should be visually inspected and ring tested.

Why use safety glasses and face shields ? Two Great Reasons

The ear plugs are for you to use as needed! Please don’t waste them DON’T BE A BUTT HEAD ABOUT USING HEARING PROTECTION

Conduct yourself in a manner conduct to safe shop practices.

Bend your knees - not your back! SAFE LIFTING Means using your head! Bend your knees - not your back! Let your legs do the lifting STAND close to the load Use Your Head and Save Your Back!

Get Help with heavy or awkward loads! SAFE LIFTING Use Your Head and Save Your Back! Get Help with heavy or awkward loads! Use the right tools!

SAFE LIFTING Carrying the load… Hold the load close so you can see over it. Keep the load balanced. Avoid twisting the body Watch out for pinch points -- doorways, etc. Face the way you will be moving.

Always read the labels on the cylinders to know what is inside. **Cylinders must always be chained in the up-right position when in use or storage. ** If an Acteylene cylinder is placed on it’s side it must be put in the up-right position for at least 30-45 minutes before it is used.                                                              Keep oil and grease away from oxygen and acetylene equipment to avoid explosions Always read the labels on the cylinders to know what is inside.

OXY FUEL OXYGEN TANK VALVE ACTEYLENE TANK VALVE *Stand to side of regulator *Open valve slowly to full open snug ACTEYLENE TANK VALVE *Crack valve open, *when pressure stops increasing then *open ½ turn more.

Booths Are the ventilators on? Each booth has a welding helmet, chipping hammer, and brush Close the curtains behind you when you are going to be welding

Confine Long hair before operating equipment

Remove rings and jewelry when working in a shop.

Rings and Jewelry can conduct electricity AND ALSO

GET CAUGHT IN A MACHINE

Ready for welding Safety Glasses and welding helmet Leather Cape sleeves Leather welding gloves Leather work shoes Split leg leather welding apron

Wear safety glasses and welding helmet when welding Welding gloves are necessary Coveralls to protect you & your clothes

Only the operator should be around a machine or start it.

Only one operator at a time Be careful of the sharp edges on the cut material Keep hands away from the shear bar

Do Not use defective electrical equipment, extension cords, plugs ect.

Extension cord safety Report any problems Electric Shock, a serious, sometimes fatal physical injury caused by an accidental flow of electricity through the body. Most cases of accidental electric shock involve a hand or arm in contact with a power source, an exposed wire or other part of a live electrical circuit. Extension cord safety Report any problems Check for frayed electrical cords (wires showing). Don’t use plugs that have the round prong removed Electricity and water is a dangerous combination Protect the electric cords from damage.

Keep floor clean and free from obstruction and slippery substances.

Clean up spilled liquids immediately!

The shop has enough brooms and brushes for “clean up” at the end of class. Every area is to be cleaned after each class.

IF YOU DON’T WORK SAFELY, YOU’RE GOING TO GET HURT!!!

THE END
