2. The Main Causes Of Accidents Are….
Insufficient KNOWLEDGE
Improper use of TOOLS and EQUIPMENT
Being in a HURRY
Taking unnecessary RISKS
Failure to remove BROKEN equipment
Failure to safeguard DANGEROUS equipment

3. SAFETY IN THE THEATRE

4. HORSE PLAY is not allowed and will not be tolerated in ANY Theatre space. This includes the Performing Arts Center, Black Box Theatre, Scene Shop, Dressing Rooms, Light Booth and any other part of the Theatre complex.

5. Lifting Heavy Objects
Lift carefully! The proper method for lifting is to bend at the KNEES and push up with the LEGS.

6. Accidents
All ACCIDENTS should be reported to Mr. Sharp or Mrs. Alcala immediately

7. Wear proper clothing at all times, including PROTECTIVE GEAR when necessary.

8. Clean Shop/Classroom
The stage, classroom, and scene shop must be left CLEAN and safe condition at the end of each class, rehearsal, or work session

11. Shop Safety Rules
Never work ALONE . You should never work in the scene shop or theatre without Ms. Alcala or Mr. Sharp present.
Do not attempt to use any tool or machine before being fully TRAINED in its use by Ms. Alcala or Mr. Sharp. It is your responsibility to ask for HELP if you are unsure how to safely use a tool, machine, or stage equipment.
Always wear eye and ear PROTECTION when operating any power tool.
Keep floor around tool or machine work area free from SCRAPS and DEBRIS

12. Shop Safety Rules cont.
While operating any power tool or machine, absolute CONCENTRATION is a must. Talking or allowing others to talk to you can distract you form the task at hand . If a conversation is necessary, turn off the tool or machine.
Work SLOWLY. Do not force the tool or machine to cut a faster rate than it was designed for.
Use the PROPER tool. Don’t force a tool or machine to do a job for which it was not designed.

13. Shop Safety Rules cont.
After completing a task, clean equipment and work area thoroughly with a brush and/or broom and return tools to their proper STORAGE LOCATIONS.
Any tool or machine that is BROKEN in any way should be immediately reported to Ms. Alcala or Mr. Sharp.
Never operate any tool or machine while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, medication, or if you are EXHAUSTED . Do not work if you might be putting yourself or others at risk of injury.

14. CLOTHING SAFETY RULES

15. LONG HAIR should be tired back or covered.
No Loose Clothing!
Never wear LOOSE clothing of any kind, such as a necktie, gloves, long sleeves or anything else that might get caught in moving parts.
LONG HAIR should be tired back or covered.

16. No Jewelry!
Rings, bracelets, necklaces, wrist watches, and IDs may not be worn while operating power tools and machinery.

17. Protective Clothing
Long pants are recommended when working in the scene shop.
Hard or thick soled shoes should be worn while working in the scene shop. Tennis Shoes are allowed, but not as safe. SANDALS and BARE FEET are not permitted. Your shoes should provide protection that can withstand the weight of heavy objects that might accidently fall on your feet, or SHARP OBJECTS you might step on. NO FLIP FLOPS.
GLOVES should be worn to protect hands from abrasion and burns when working with hazardous liquids such as chemicals, paints, or solvents.
Long Sleeves shirts must have SLEEVES ROLLED UP.
EAR PROTECTION should be worn to protect hearing when working with loud tools for long periods of time.

18. LADDER RULES

19. Students are not required to use ladders
Students are not required to use ladders. If you are uncomfortable using ladders, please inform Ms Alcala or Mr. Sharp.

20. Do not STAND or SIT on the top of any ladder.

21. MORE LADDER RULES
Any time a student climbs OVER 6FEET on a ladder, it must be held by another student or teacher.
Do not leave anything SITTING on the steps of a ladder or on the top of a ladder.
Make sure the ladder is STURDY before climbing.
Do not LEAN or OVERREACH while on a ladder.
Never move a ladder or personnel lift while SOMEONE IS ON IT.
