Health Partnerships SO Healthy Communities Global Development Jan 16, 2018/ Faith Chabedi

Why Partnerships? Partnerships are essential in sustainable development. They help organizations, governments and the private sector to work together by sharing skills, expertise an resources to achieve common goals. They help organizations to expand their scope to reach more people and provide services in multiple development sectors (e.g. health and education.)

SO Health Partnerships According to Global Strategic plan 2016-2020, SO will form partnerships to increase athlete’s access to health Partnerships will be formed with local and international NGOs, governments, Universities and private sector. Partnerships are either for funding, inclusive collaboration, or a combination of both.

How to form a partnership1 Identify the organization to partner with. Research on the goals of the identified organization according to its strategic plan. Confirm that the organization has common goals with Special Olympics and that the partnership will mutually benefit both parties. Identify a health need to be addressed through the partnership, especially health issues that are a strategic priority for the partner.

How to form a partnership 2 Inform the regional HC manager/director about the intention to form a partnership with the identified organization. If the identified party is a global health organization, the region will liaise with global development to facilitate introductions. Local partnerships will be developed and managed by the Program.

How to form a partnership 3 The Parties will draw a concept note, indicating potential areas of collaboration. Both Parties can participate jointly in identified activities. Should there be a need to formalize the partnership, the MOU must be signed for Parties to operate according to the agreed terms of the MOU (Template available). The MOU may be signed by the National Director or the Regional President, according to the type and location of the partnership activities.
