3 An Inclusive Engagement Ecosystem
What is an “Ecosystem”? Not just the elements in an ecosystem, but the conditions and climate that support their growth and the interactions and interdependencies between them. Certainly City of Athens; Nonprofit organizations, BUT also business, global, government partners, schools, etc., etc.

4 The Engagement Spectrum
Engagement IN the community Engagement WITH the community -Transactional -Unidirectional -Benefits may be indirect or difficult to measure -Partnership -Joint Design -Mutually beneficial -Benefits are direct and measurable Engagement ecosystem is a spectrum of engagement Engagement with the community == community engagement All parts of this spectrum are in the engagement ecosystem – going to focus on the right side of spectrum more today

5 An Inclusive Ecosystem
Who is “the Community”? Communities are identifiable groups of individuals that share similar interests, concerns, and needs. -Based on North Carolina State University’s definition Certainly City of Athens; Nonprofit organizations, BUT also business, global, government partners, schools, etc., etc.

6 Community Engagement: Expanding our Understanding
What is engagement with the Community? “Community engagement describes the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional, state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial creation and exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.” - Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning What often comes to mind is Volunteering, or Community Service, but much broader than that

9 Aligning the Engagement Ecosystem regionally, nationally, and internationally
Goal: Engagement ecosystem continues to evolve that acts as a catalyst in partnership with communities to address regional, national, and international development priorities. For out students, creates engaged citizens who have engagement embedded as a life-long practice, achieve academic and career excellence, and who define success as having impact for the common good.
