The Directorate for Research, Lifelong Learning and Employability Promote and provide opportunities for lifelong learning with a special focus on adult learning Monitoring the Implementation of the Malta National Lifelong Learning Strategy 2020 At least 15% of the 24-65 population to be in lifelong learning by 2020

Origins Course started in 2014 Locally few qualified adult trainers especially in the area of VET Few courses specialising on techniques used in adult learning Adult educators who are experts in their field but lack a teaching qualification

Aims Bringing together & improve the skills of individuals working within the adult education sector Recognise adult education as a profession Focus on practical methods and techniques to help adults learn All steps within the education cycle from identifying a need to delivery and evaluation of a course

The Course A three year MQF Level 5 qualification A total of 13 modules - compulsory, instructional methods, optional modules and a practicum Sessions held evenings and Saturdays Course fee €18.63 per module

The Practicum Create, plan, deliver and evaluate a course for adults

The Practicum Elements Teaching Performance (60%) Long Essay (40%) Design & Development/ Preparation (20%) spread over two elements: Critical Evaluation (16%) - Proposal Form (5%) Analysis (8%) - Adult Educator File (15%) Design & Development (8%) Implementation/Delivery (40%) Implementation (8%) Participants need to pass from all elements in order to successfully complete the Practicum

The practical – delivery element A course of a minimum of 14 hours Two surprise class observations; one advisory & one assessed A second assessor might also conduct a surprise visit Observation visits are of a minimum of 1 hour Observation form to be signed by both the participant and the assessor
