Presentation transcript:

Volunteer Role Profile Community Fundraising Volunteer The Food Chain provides nutrition services including home delivered meals, essential groceries and nutrition advice to men, women and children who are chronically sick as a result of HIV related illness. We aim to support people living with HIV to get well, stay well and live independent lives. All our services are provided with the help and support of around 600 volunteers. The Food Chain receives no government funding for our food delivery services. Community and event fundraising also brings in a significant part of our income. Your role will be to support the fundraising team by helping them extend their resources and implement new and exciting community fundraising initiatives in the weeks leading up to and on World AIDS Day on 1 December. If youve got any great ideas for fundraising initiatives, we want your input! What does the role involve? World AIDS day Youll be seeking the support of schools, universities, churches and community groups to sell red ribbons and hold fundraising events (cake sales, etc) in the weeks leading up to World AIDS Day on 1 December. This will involve an initial phone call or followed up by sending out fundraising packs and resources and supporting any participants fundraising efforts. Community Fundraising Youll act as the coordinator for our bucket shaking fundraiser days. Youll research locations where we can send our bucket shakers, secure dates, take a lead on recruiting and organising volunteers and act as the main point of contact on the day. Youll need to consider volunteers coming into the office to collect and drop off their buckets and shift patterns. We have a pool of volunteers we can ask to rise to the challenge! Youll also count up all the lovely money and log the amount on our database. Collection Tins Youll research and approach cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops in the local area and across London to support The Food Chain by hosting a collection tin on their counter. Youll also assume responsibility for our existing supporters who host collection tins - Konditor and Cook and The Peoples Supermarket. Youll collect tins when they are full, swap them over for empty ones, count up all the lovely money and log the amount on our database. How often do I need to volunteer? How much time do I need to give? We are seeking a volunteer who can commit to one day a week until at least the end of December What training and support will I get? Volunteer Induction Training on our database Supervision form the Fundraising team Support from the Training and Volunteer Coordinator in office Expenses: Travel and lunch expenses reimbursed in line with the Finance Policy What skills do I need to be a really good Community Fundraiser? This role would be particularly suited to a recent graduate looking to gain experience in either the charity sector or event management or someone who already works in events and is looking to support a small charity with their skills. Key attributes include: Approachability and strong inter personal skills Trustworthiness and honesty Confident telephone manner and a willingness to cold call Strong written and verbal communication skills Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
