Definitions Settlement – a place where people live Settlement site – the exact location of a settlement Settlement factors – the reasons why the people chose to build their settlement there

A good water supply for washing, drinking, cooking and transportation

Wood is a source of building materials to build houses and tools. Wood is a supply of fuel for cooking and heating the houses.

A site on crossroads, river or coast makes it easier to access other settlements. Flat land is easier to build on (relief).

A Hilltop site for defence against any attackers. Dry land that wont flood.

Water source for drinking, cooking and transport. Good farmland. But steep land is hard to build on and it might flood!!
