Animal Abuse

When you hear the term animal abuse, what comes to mind?? People who are violent towards animals, are also often violent towards the people in their lives. Child abuse and animal abuse are under the same roof, is not uncommon…

Here are some examples of animal abuse and cruelty for you

Animal Testing Dogs, rabbits, rats, mice, and even monkeys are used to test the safety of house hold cleaning products, prescription medication, and cosmetics. The specific ingredient or product is usually put in the eyes or skin. Another common method is to pump it into the airways or into the stomach. Most animals that have been used for this are left with shocking injuries.

Often times people neglect their pets by leaving them locked in a small space for long periods of time… This dog is a perfect example of how people just leave dogs tied up on short leashes and or in too small of areas. Pets that are treated this way have more mental problems making them more dangerous to be around.

Bull Fighting Bullfighting also known as tauromachy is a traditional spectacle of Spain. This is also known as bulling. In Portugal it’s even legal to kill a bull inside the arena.

Caged In This kitten has been left without food or water in this cage for several days. Another perfect example of abuse by neglect.

Neglect Sometimes animal cruelty is not intentional. Some people simply are incapable of caring for there animal. For example this starving horse was simply neglected and left to starve…

Cock Fighting This may come as a surprise to you but I recently found out from an animal patrol officer at the ASPCA that cock fighting is one of our bigger issues in Santa Cruz concerning animal abuse.

Dog Fighting Dog fighting has now been made illegal in the United States These animals are being abused and trained to be violent which as a result makes the animals more nervous and far more likely to attack.

Is it Culture? Some may say it for culture purposes, that these things have been passed on through generations. People don’t do this to the animals to harm them. Usually the case is simply ignorance, which results in animal cruelty and suffering…

Simply because it is some sort of tradition or simply a habit of yours, this does not mean that you can not be the one to break the cycle.

 Believe it or not but, animals do indeed have feelings. They know when the are being mistreated It stresses and depresses them. It is possible for animals to have mental and emotional issues. The more unhappy the animal is the more likely it is to be violent.

Voiceless? Animals do not speak human dialect therefore they are left almost voiceless If we can not help be a voice for them, then who else?

For the Future The younger generation is who we must reach out to most in search of stopping animal cruelty. For they are the new generations who will be passing on habits and knowledge in the future. Better positive than negative.

Rights Animals are living, breathing beings on this earth along with us. Therefore, should have the right to be protected from harm and cruelty. They too should have the right to live happily.

For Those Who May or May Not Be Guilty If you find yourself behaving in a violent manner towards a pet or loved one, seek out help. The violent cycle can too be stopped.

Get Involved If it is too much effort to help stop animal cruelty, at least do your part in trying to influence ignorant people positively when it comes down to abuse or neglect. It won’t take up too much energy and it could make a difference.

Take Action Usually, people don’t pay attention to cruelty or abuse when they see it because quite frankly a lot of the time, they do not know who to call to report such things, or where to go for help.

So Take the Time to Care
