1 Animal Abuse

2 Statistics Animal cruelty is often broken down into two main categories: active/commision and passive/omission. There are many kinds of animals abuse. Passive cruelty is typified by cases of neglect, where the crime is a lack of action rather than the action itself. Active cruelty is when someone hurts an animal on purpose. It can also be used by people to make them do things even sexually by threatening to hurt or kill the animal.

3 Statistics Animal abusers start as young as age 10.
People age abuse animals the most. More males abuse animals than women. Any one can abuse an animal but the biggest amount of abusers are males and people in their 30’s to 40’s.

4 Examples of neglect are starvation, dehydration, parasite infestations, allowing a collar to grow into an animal’s skin. There are so many ways of abuse. Even simple things like not taking your dog to get it’s shots or not brushing them can lead to death. Underfed Dog

5 More examples of neglect
Inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and failure to seek veterinary care when an animal needs medical attention.

6 Statistics The most common type of animal cruelty is neglect or abandonment Neglect is caused by mostly people who don’t care which includes ignorance.

7 Animal fighting which can be used with any animals, is usually fatal.
Statistics Animal fighting which can be used with any animals, is usually fatal. Illegal animal fighting is a blood-sport in which animals are specifically bred and trained to fight each other within an enclosed pit or ring, for the benefit of individuals who place bets on the animal they believe will win. Badger Baiting (Badger Digging): When a dog or dogs is pitted against a badger - illegal but not uncommon in the UK. Hog-Dog Fighting (Hog dogging, hawg dawgin', hog baiting, hog dog "rodeos"): When a dog (usually pit bull) is pitted against a feral pig, or hog.

8 Statistics 10.5% increase in animal cruelty investigations by the RSPCA (122,454 in 2006) 7.6% increase in animal rescues and collections (164,110) 10% increase in verbal warnings to prevent offences being committed (4,222); and • 9% reduction in court orders banning offenders from keeping animals (681 orders).

9 Animal Abuse groups American Humane PETA Voices For Pets
All of these organizations help put animal abusers to justice or care for the dogs that are hurt. It is very important to get involved because you are helping animals who can’t speak for themselves, who can’t care for themselves. These animals are helpless and are looking out for love, care and attention.
