Abdelghani (Abid) Bin-Tarif | FMD Reference Laboratory The challenges of using in-vitro tests for Vaccine Matching (2015-2016) Abdelghani (Abid) Bin-Tarif | Bob J. Statham | Anna B. Ludi | Donald P. King FMD Reference Laboratory

Samples processing steps Introduction The Pirbright Institute is the OIE, FAO and EU Reference Laboratory for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). The Serum Assay Unit carries out vaccine matching tests for international samples received by the World Reference Laboratory (WRL), to characterise the antigenic relationship (r1-value) between circulating field strains and vaccine. Samples processing steps

Samples submitted to WRL-FMD 2015-2016 More than 195 samples submitted to WRL-FMD between submitted between Jan.2015-Oct 2016 from 27 different countries.

Results Serotype A: Serotype O: 33 field isolates have been tested by VNT from five different pools, results show good match with the vaccine strains in pools 1 and 5, but show poor match in pools 3, 4 and 6.The new lineage G-VII in pool 1 has a poor match against all vaccine viruses available in the SAU. Serotype O: 60 field isolates have been tested by VNT from five different pools. Results show good match with the vaccine strains in all pools.

Future Acknowledgements In the future the WRL along with international reference laboratories of the OIE/FAO Network is working to harmonise and improve the robustness and repeatability of the vaccine-matching test. Acknowledgements Don King, Anna Ludi, Bob Statham, Ginette Wilsden and Clare Browning Central Service Unit (CSU) World Reference Lab (WRL) You for submitting samples Vaccine companies for supplying reagents and EuFMD for allowing me to present Many Thanks .
