Regional Activities

14 Workplan for 2012  Continued support for network activities and meetings  Formation of research sub-groups within network  Sharing of information across networks in the region  Continuous training in lab. test  Support for upgrading of labs in the region and accreditation of a reference lab in EA  Wider participation in PTs  Support in acquisition of lab equipment and reagents

15 Workplan for 2012 Suggestions for presentation in Bangkok 2012 Results of Survey on Lab capacity in EA region Comprehensive Review of FMD Epidemiology in the EA region Activities of the EA network towards PCP the project to develop serotype-specific primers for EA FMD has been approved by EuFMD and withinin 12 months should evaluate primer sets for use in EA, (IAH and Lindholm, with local partners in Uganda and Tanzania. Actions: mainly IAH/Lindholm to initiate

16 Workplan for 2012 (cont) annual meeting (tentatively) the 5-6th March, in Nairobi (back to back with the FAO/OIE/AU regional PCP/Roadmap Development Workshop). Action: mainly from EuFMD - to confirm dates. the annual surveillance report for the OIE/FAO Annual Lab network report (on virus circulation in the EA region in 2011 - based on national confirmations and international ref lab findings) should be finalized in early Feb (the deadline is usually set by Pirbright, and allows for completion of lab results for outbreaks to the end of December). Action: Sabenzia/Chanasa
