Fall Conference 2017 Welcome First Timers & Delegates! Good morning Zontian Sisters Thank you

CELINA SHOJI 2016-2018 Lieutenant Governor Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent since 1999. Past Area 3 Director, Jane M Klausman Coordinator, Club President, Treasurer, Director, Chair of various committees.

CHERIE JOHNSON 2016-2018 Parliamentarian Zonta Club of Roscommon since 2010. Club secretary, Board member at large and nominating committee. This year is her 35th anniversary as a Zontian!

Overall objectives: 1. To provide an overview of activities at the conference. 2. To provide suggestions on how to get the most out of the conference. 3. To provide opportunities to ask questions or discuss concerns about the conference. This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY

Activities at conference: Fellowship & FUN! Promoting the objectives & programs of ZI. Conducting the business of the District, e.g. electing officers, approving budget, updating District policies & procedures.

Activities (continued) Consider and act upon resolutions and proposed amendments to the Zonta International Bylaws and Rules of Procedure. Provide learning opportunities and training.

Fellowship Opportunities Friday Fun Night is a casual evening with your Zontian Sisters. We are all here to support the same issues – sit with people you don’t know and “compare notes” with other Zontians. Saturday Night, enjoy the formal setting & celebrate the accomplishments of our Zontian Sisters. Sunday Morning, remember past Zontian Sisters & leave inspired.

Learning Opportunities Review documents before each session. Attend workshops & participate! Listen attentively to the reports Take opportunities to speak to Zontians from other clubs about their activities & share club successes.

Shopping opportunities at the Zonta Store Each club can sell items to raise money at the Conference Zonta Store. The “store” will be open only when the conference is not in session. Pick up gifts for your Zontian Sisters who couldn’t attend the conference.

Parlimentary Procedure What is a delegate? How many delegates does a club have? Sign in on the first day, then again if there is a change Get your voting card Get motion forms if needed Line Up and Seating

Parlimentary Procedure How do I make a motion? Stand and say “Governor Sylvester” or “Madam Governor”. Once you have her attention, loudly and clearly state your name, your club name, and whether you are a delegate or alternate delegate. Make your motion by stating “I move …” . Then be seated. Use the motion form to write down your motion. You will need to sign it, as well as the seconder, and submit it to the Secretary.

Parlimentary Procedure How do second a motion? You do not need to wait for the Governor to ask for a second. You can call from your seat without standing. Use the full statement “I second the motion.” The Governor may ask for your name for the record. The Governor will say “It is moved by ___ and seconded by ___ to (restate the motion).

Parlimentary Procedure Discussion Begins The Governor will ask if there is any discussion. More formal than in your club. You have three minutes to make your point, then you must yield the floor to another member. If you have a another point, you must wait until other speakers have had their say. Typically, those in support of a motion alternate with those opposed to the motion. Delegates speak before there is discussion from the floor. Once the maximum time for discussion is reached, a vote will be called.

Parlimentary Procedure Discussion Ends No more discussion Time limit is attained Time limit is extended or shortened The Governor will call the question All those in favor of (restates the motion) signify by raising your card. All those opposed signify by raising your card. The Governor will announce the result
