A Level English Literature - EDEXCEL

Your mark for AS doesn’t go towards your final grade but does give a rough idea … For A2 Literature, you will be re-visiting AS texts. DO NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY!!!!

What does A Level English Literature involve? 1) Coursework- worth 20 % of the total grade. You will be writing a comparison of two texts We will be starting this work before we finish for the Summer. 2) Exam (1) Drama -> Tragedy You will be answering two questions, one on “A Streetcar Named Desire” and the other on “Othello” by William Shakespeare. 3) Exam (2) Prose You will be comparing “Never Let Me Go” and “Frankenstein” again. 4) Exam (3) Poetry. For the first question you will be comparing the choice of two named poems from the Anthology with an unseen poem. For the second question you will be answering on pre 1900 poetry (Metaphysical Poetry.)

Coursework A Level English Literature 20 % You will be comparing two texts and producing an essay of approximately 2,500-3,000 words. We will be starting this work over transition and you will be completing the first draft over the Summer. This is written in stone!! This will test A01, A02, A03, A04, A05

Exam (1) Paper 1 (Drama) 2 hours 15 minutes SECTION A Shakespeare. We will be studying “Othello.” You have a choice of two questions and it is out of 35. You also must show engagement with the Shakespeare Critical Anthology SECTION B Other Drama. We will be studying “A Streetcar Named Desire” again. You will have a choice of two questions and it is out of 25 Tests A01, A02, A03

Exam (2) (Prose) 1 hour Overlap with AS You will be again comparing “Never Let Me Go” and “Frankenstein” and will again have a choice of two questions. Again the theme is Science & Society. Out of 40. Tests A01, A02, A03, A04

Exam (3) (Poetry) 2 hours 15 minutes SECTION A Post 2000 Specified Poetry For this question you will be asked to compare a named poem from the anthology with an unseen poem. There will be a choice of two questions and it is out of 30 SECTION B Pre 1900 Specified Poetry (Metaphysical Poetry) You will be answering on a choice of two named poems and will have to compare this poem with another poem of your choice from the collection.
