3 The folio will count for 30% of your final grade. It should contain:
Pupils must produce two pieces of writing, approximately 1000 words to be sent to the SQA. The folio will count for 30% of your final grade. It should contain: 1 x discursive/ persuasive piece 1x creative/ personal This must be all pupils’ own work and should be detailed and accurate. The folio should be completed by the end of February.

5 EXAMINATION: CLOSE READING
Time – 1 hour Pupils will be given an unseen passage and expected to answer analysis and evaluation questions. It is worth 30 marks. 30% of your final grade.

6 THE EXAMINATION: CRITICAL READING
1 hour 30 minutes Scottish Text (45 minutes) 20 marks, worth 20% of your final grade The teacher decides which text will be studied. It will either be drama, prose or poetry. In the exam pupils will be given an extract of that text. They will have to answer questions ANALYSING the extract.

7 Critical Essay (45 minutes)
Worth 20 marks, 20% of your final grade. Pupils study one or two texts, either: a novel, a short story, a few poems or a play. They will be expected to learn about the key characters, themes and techniques used by the writer. They will have to write an essay about that text in 45 minutes. They are not allowed notes, plans or texts into the exam hall. You must have learned all the information!

8 HOMEWORK/STUDY Homework will be regular/weekly
HOMEWORK/STUDY Homework will be regular/weekly. It will include reading, note making, essay writing, close reading and revision. Homework on its own not enough.
