What do you think the colonists chose to do to King George III? A. Sail to Britain and kill him B. Ignore him C. Write him a letter D. Send him a mean text E. Kidnap his wife

They wrote him a letter?!

The Declaration of Independence A group of colonists met together to DECLARE (to state or to announce) their INDEPENDENCE (meaning they are free from Britain’s rule) from Britain. July 4, 1776 is the day we celebrate our independence from Britain

The Declaration of Independence is a letter telling King George their reasons for leaving Thomas Jefferson is given the most credit for writing it, but many others helped I get ALL the credit…ha ha ha!

How are the colonists feeling about the British right about now after receiving a letter saying we do not want to be ruled by them? What are some events that made them MAD?

Ending Questions What made writing the letter difficult? What did the colonist fear might happen? Why were they willing to go through with it anyway? Why did the British want America so badly? What do you think countries like Mexico, Australia, India, who were also ruled by the British felt after they saw the United States revolt?
