2. The causes of the American Revolution
The Seven Years’ War ( ) confirmed Great Britain’s naval supremacy  Great Britain gained enormous areas of land and influence at the expense of the France, in particular in North America
The government, in agreement with the new king, George, III tried to cover part of the costs by imposing new taxes on the American colonies. The British claimed that it was their right to do so, while the 13 colonies stated that such taxes were being imposed by a Parliament in which they had no say  The clash was summed up in the America slogan: “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!”

3. There were other economic reasons that caused the colonies to press for Independence. Their wealth depended on trade which was conditioned by British interests.
The colonies were allowed to export raw materials only to England and they were not allowed to import goods from any other country in order not to damage the economy of the motherland.

4. How did the American colonies react?
They reacted with protests and boycotts of British goods
The Boston Tea Party was a political protest that occurred on December 16, American colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” dumped 342 chests of British tea into the harbor. The event was the first major act of defiance to British rule.

The representatives of the 13 colonies gathered in Philadelphia, where on the 4th July 1776, they passed the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson. It states the rights of all men to equality, to freedom and to the pursuit of happiness.
