Creating your news area Sitecore how-to

News templates There are several templates designed to display your news content NewAndSpeechesLanding – A template designed to show a snapshot of your latest news, speeches and NDS news articles. This template automatically pulls through the items from child elements (location = /BISCore/Sections/NewsAndSpeeches) GenericNewsLanding – A landing page to display news articles in date order with latest article first. (location = /BISCore/Sections/GenericNews) –GenericNews – A template for news articles SpeechesLanding - A landing page to display speech articles in date order with latest speech first (location = /BISCore/Sections/Speeches) –Speech – A template for speeches NDSPressNoticesLanding – A template designed to present news articles published on the NDS news service RSS feed. (location = /BISCore/Sections/News/)

Which template to use? Which news template you use is determined by the type and quantity of news you have. If you have multiple news content types (e.g. news and speeches) you should always use the NewAndSpeechesLanding template as your top news landing page as this will nicely display your latest news content on one page. If you only have news articles but no speeches or NDS news you should use the GenericNewsLanding template as your top news landing page. News Landing page Press releases heading Press releases number displayed Press releases more link text The NewsAndSpeechesLanding template automatically pulls through top stories, speeches and press releases from the child pages. Note the content will only appear once the child pages have been completed. Setting the item locations The NewsAndSpeechesLanding template references the site setting item locations to establish where to look for the news, speech and press release items.

GenericNewsLanding This template will automatically pull through news articles you create as child elements and sort them in date order. Once you add the page insert a Generic News Year Folder underneath it. This will create a year folder and child month folders for you to add news articles to. Add your news articles using the GenericNews template.

SpeechesLanding This template displays a summary of child speech items in date order

Creating a Speech Title Minister giving speech (details will be pulled through from the Minister page) Venue Speech date Body

NDSPressNoticesLanding This landing page pulls through news items from an NDS RSS feed. You may need to contact NDS and ask them to provide you with an RSS feed for your news. Example feed url = did={b739fd02-9c0b-40e6-bd3f- 9e2bf1f6040d} did={b739fd02-9c0b-40e6-bd3f- 9e2bf1f6040d} Once you have created the page please contact BIS digital team and request that you are added to the Check Partners News Feed schedule.
