Data collection for GPG 2013 Collection in December 2014 No data from Greece and Ireland Eurostat launched an action plan for Greece aiming at re-establishing regular data transmissions from ELSTAT to Eurostat Greece has committed itself to provide the missing annual estimates by the end of the last year Ireland informed Eurostat that the 2013 data will be provided in December 2015

Latest data collection for GPG 2014 Data collection launched on 9 November 2015 Deadline on 14 December 2015 All the countries, except France, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands and Switzerland, provided GPG data Among the countries which transmitted data, Austria, Cyprus and Iceland have not provided the mean hourly earnings of men and women As regards the NACE breakdown, all countries have transmitted the corresponding GPG data except Austria

The European Equal Pay Day Organised each year by the European Commission (DG Justice) Data on the Gender Pay Gap (GPG) get high publicity The date depends on the average gender pay gap at the EU level The last event took place on 2 November 2015 Referring to GPG2013 data Symbolizing that women lost 59/365 days of earnings compared to men

Gender Pay Gap for 2013 GPG in the EU28 was: 16.3% Across Member States, it varies from around 3% in Slovenia to almost 30% in Estonia

Annual changes between 2011 and 2014 Annual changes of 2 percentage points or over in absolute terms in Estonia, Ireland, Croatia, Hungary and Portugal Large fluctuations may point to possible inconsistencies between the SES data and the annual estimates Possible causes of inconsistencies: Annual GPG not benchmarked on SES2010 Annual sources for GPG too volatile

Benchmarking on SES 2014 The annual GPG estimates should be revised on the basis of the 4-yearly Structure of Earnings Survey (SES) SES 2014 data should be available by the end of June 2016 The national contact persons responsible for the GPG will be asked in February whether they intend to benchmark GPG data themselves or would rely on Eurostat Eurostat will invite the countries to resubmit GPG data for the 2011-2014 period by 30 September 2016

Next data collection For reference year 2015 Data request will be sent on 31 October 2016 Deadline on 14 December 2016

Calculation of the EU aggregates The annual GPG for the EU is calculated as the weighted mean of the gender pay gaps in EU Member States ("indirect method") For SES data, the "direct method" can be used: EU GPG = (EU mean hourly earnings of men - EU mean hourly earnings of women) / EU mean hourly earnings of men x 100 To ensure consistency Eurostat recommends using the "indirect method" for SES data

The members of the LAMAS Working Group are invited: - To take note of the transmissions of GPG2013 and GPG2014 data and check that GPG series are time- consistent - To take note that revised GPG data, benchmarked on SES2014, are expected to be transmitted before 30 September 2016 - To take note of the timetable for the transmission of GPG2015 data; - To take note of the method recommended by Eurostat to calculate the EU Gender Pay Gap
