Presentation transcript:

History Pre-1986 The system consisted of LB channels (44.MHz range) Heavy interference from other users Radios were limited in the number of channels available Unable to have multiple conversations at the same time If the radio was keyed up by accident no one could use that channel

1986 The Automatic Multiple Site Select (AMSS) system begins to be operational The 1st wide-area, 800 MHz trunked communication system in North America Provided multiple talk-groups, i.e. Dispatch, TACH1 Provided more efficient use of the same frequencies Provided Emergency button capabilities, private call, and paging 1999 – 2000 Upgraded AMSS from Type 1 to Type 2 AMSS 1 technology was no longer supported

Then 9/11 happened and the way we look at communications changed.

Forging of Partnerships Between State Agencies –Steering Committee ADEM ASP DIS Between the State and Counties –Local Leadership Council County Judges County OEMs County Sheriffs County Fire Quorum Court

Now 2004 – 2006 –Used Existing Assets –Used Homeland Security Grant Funds –Used Bond funds –Upgraded existing AMSS Type 2 system a digital, 700/800MHz system –Enhanced Coverage –Leveraged $100M in Assets to create a $175 - $200M system
