3 Project Objective To assist public safety agencies in understanding the capabilities of the GIN network and operating it more effectively in daily and emergency operations

4 Funding/Project Period n Funding provided through GEMA/HS by the Interoperable Emergency Communications Grant Program (IECGP) n Project initiated October 2009 n Courses to be developed and deployed over two years

5 Course Development Team n GTRI developing all aspects of GIN training courses n GEMA/HS & GSP providing overall technical guidance n User review committee from Georgia 911 community providing course evaluations n 911 center operators providing user testing

6 Project Deliverables n Stand-alone web training courses & video: n Basic operator course (completed) n Awareness video (projected completion 1 st quarter 2011) n Supervisor’s course (projected completion 1 st quarter 2011) n Supplemental web training courses: n Basic radio training course (projected completion 2nd quarter 2011) n Designing radio system infrastructures to enhance use of the GIN course (projected completion 3rd quarter 2011)

7 Operator Course Overview n Course explains GIN functionalities, demonstrates them, and then allows students to practice and show mastery of skills n Course now available free of charge, 24/7, on web for public safety agency personnel statewide n Register at the following address: n http://www.webinservice.com/gtri

8 Course Features n Based on a series of lessons describing key GIN functionalities n Simulates how GIN functionalities work then allows student to perform tasks n Presents standard methods of operating GIN tasks, not all possible methods n Provides optional audio narrative n Takes approximately 2-4 hours to complete n Certificates of completion & CEUs to be provided

10 Lesson Format n Describes GIN functionalities n Simulates GIN functionalities n Allows students to practice GIN functionalities n Assesses student competence in performing GIN functionalities

11 Supervisor Buy-In n Successful rollout of the course requires the support of supervisors who: n Take the operator course n Talk to their staff about importance of GIN n Encourage staff members to take course n Provide time for staff members to take course n Recognize accomplishment of staff members who complete course n Continue to encourage others to take course

12 Technical Assistance n The course web site provides: n An email address to write if you have trouble getting into the course n An email address to identify content issues and suggest changes in the course n Changes will be considered during the first 6 months of course availability, then a second version of the course will be created.
