Presentation transcript:

SCULPTURE Sculpture Fundamentals: Form: The total mass or configuration that the subject or idea takes. It is the physical structure of the sculpture.   Content: The emotion, message or passion that the sculptor intends to convey through his/her sculpture.   Technique: The combination of materials and tools to create the sculpture.

4 Main Types of Sculpture In The Round: What we usually think of when we think of sculptures; free standing solid piece surrounded on all four sides by empty space

4 Main Types of Sculpture Assemblage: A sculpture, free standing like in the round, but made of different objects put together

4 Main Types of Sculpture Relief: A form or picture that projects out from or is mounted on a vertical surface High Relief Low Relief

4 Main Types of Sculpture Kinetic: Sculpture that moves or possesses moving parts, such as a mobile or windmill

4 Ways (or methods of) Sculpting: Modeling: The process of manipulating a flexible material into a sculptural form. Modeling is an additive process. Most modeling is done with clay.   Casting: The process of filling a mold with liquid material that will then harden. Molds (hollow forms) provide the method for materials to take on or retain the shape, and securing an impression.   Carving: The process of cutting away material to reveal the desired image. Carving is a subtractive process and requires much planning, since the material cannot be restored.   Construction (Assemblage): The process of joining together components of one or more materials to create the sculpture. Construction and assemblage can be both an additive and/or subtractive process.
