Programmed Activities for 2011 Economical Management of Veterinary Services: Cost and Benefit Analysis. Publication of the regional studies about Cost and Benefit analysis Brucellosis, Tuberculoses, Avian Influenza, Classical Swine Fever, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Honduras The continuity on the activities carried out in 2010 is proposed, with special emphasis on the issues presented, such as the need for the capacity building of the Veterinary Services, and the need for the participation in the up dating of the OIE Standards Modification and provision of new OIE Standards To organize Regional Seminars and to coordinate actions to be carried out on the OIE procedure for the modification and the provision of new standards. Training of Delegates and National Focal Points Training activities on the rights and obligations of the Delegates aimed at new and current Delegates. Development of meetings and seminars at both regional and national levels with the participation of Delegates and Focal Points as well as other personnel. Training of the OIE Focal Points Continue the training activities scheduled for the OIE National Focal Points by means of the inclusion of more specific issues concerning the different areas of interest of each Focal Point. The development of the activities together with the OIE Headquarters facilitates to raise awareness of the Focal Points on the importance of the OIE. Economical Management of Veterinary Services: Cost and Benefit Analysis. Project to publish the regional studies about cost and benefit us the OIE Publication. Strengthening the relation with International Organizations, interaction with Regional Producers Organizations, Industry, Researchers, donors and Universities among others. The purpose is to reach the leadership of the OIE in the coordination of the activities in the Americas with the Regional and International Organizations, starting with the GF-TADs secretariat and now through the introduction of the Inter institutional Agenda. Participation in relevant international events The more relevant events shall be chosen based on OIE priorities, emphasizing the opportunities to carry out a wider diffusion of the OIE activities. National Meetings with Public and Private Sector These Meetings are aimed at improving the OIE visibility and the relevance of the National Veterinary Services, especially in the countries where the OIE and the Veterinary Services need further support. The main focus is the interaction with relevant Public and Private Sector representatives and also academic and research organizations. Americas Animal Welfare Regional Committee The Regional Representation will continue the work in the field of Animal Welfare in the Americas in both the public and private sector. Improvement of Regional Coordination on FMD It is proposed to improve the regional coordination on FMD activities in order to achieve the effective enforcement of the OIE Standards, considering the current situation in Venezuela, Ecuador and Costa Rica. It is also proposed to promote the activities in the Andean Region in order to develop the concept of High Surveillance Zone and improve the commitment in Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador in coordination with the OIE Scientific Commission. Laboratory Networks in the Americas. The objective is the development and strengthening of the networking concept in the new Network of National Laboratories in the Americas, through the generation of different actions such as regional and sub regional seminars, development of web applications and the distribution of information. Spanish Translation The Regional Representation will continue working in the Commission of Spanish Language. Evaluation of the Veterinary Services- PVS, GAP, Legislation The purpose of such is to cooperate and support at a regional level in coordination with OIE missions, encouraging the countries to use the OIE PVS tool, the follow up and gap analysis and legislation missions. Support the OIE “One health initiative” and support the implementation of the pilot project in Costa Rica. Under the One Health program of the OIE, the Region of the Americas will participate as an observer in the pilot plan developed for Costa Rica.
