Acids and Bases Pop Can Acids and Bases

What is an acid? Tastes sour pH less than 7 Turns blue litmus paper red Neutralizes bases and produces salt

What is a base? Tastes bitter and feels slippery Turns red litmus paper blue pH more than 7 Neutralizes acid and produces salt

Salts Acid + Base = Salt + Water Salt DOES NOT always mean the salt we think of. Hydrochloric Acid (a) + Sodium Hydroxide (b) = Water + Sodium Chloride (salt)

pH: concentration of Hydrogen ions More hydrogen ions = Acids Less hydrogen ions = Bases
