Matter Vocabulary Week 1 Voc Unit 1.2

CCGPS S8P1. Students will examine the scientific view of the nature of matter. c. Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasmas states. d. Distinguish between physical and chemical properties of matter

Matter Anything that has mass and occupies space.

Solid a state of matter that has a definite shape and a definite volume.

Liquids a state of matter that has no definite shape but has a definite volume.

Gas a state of matter with no definite shape or volume.

Condensation the change from the gaseous to the liquid state of matter.

Vaporization the change of state from a liquid to a gas.

Freezing Point the temperature at which liquid changes to a solid.

Melting Point the temperature at which solid changes to a liquid.

Boiling Point The temperature at which a liquid changes to a gas.
