Freed a group of 30 slaves today. Best trip yet. Now I have to go sleep. Good night Freed a group of 30 slaves today. Best trip yet. Now I have to go sleep. Good night Harriet Tubman was a great person to go and help free captive slaves. She made 19 total trips and helped a minimum of 300 slaves total. After all this time, her reputation grew as an Underground Railroad conductor. Because of this, many southerners wanted her captured. After all the time rewards for her capture had totaled up to $40,000. One of her most famous quotes are, Youll be free or die a slave! She meant that no one can escape. She would not let them escape on the railroad because if they left, they could be forced to give information about where her group was. Back

Sigh… Im so tired… I just got done giving 1 st aid to 27 people, cooked 59 meals, and cleaned 12 rooms... Lots of work but Id rather do this than be a slave Harriet Tubman did many things during the war like housework, nursing, conducting the Underground Railroad, and spying. She would do these things all day everyday because she wanted to do her best to help make slavery illegal. When she went down to the South to help rescue slaves, she would also keep watch on how the Confederate forces were handling things. She was a very useful spy and a nurse. She was very helpful to the Union during the Civil War. Back

I ran into my old master but he didnt recognize me because I had a nice disguise Because of the fact that Tubman was a spy, she had to have many identities. If she kept to one identity she would be easy to find and capture. She was known as many names such as: Arminta Green, Arminta Rose, Harriet Ross Tubman, Harriet Ross, and Moses. She was known as Moses to the people because she was like Moses freeing the slaves from Egypt. At one point, she had disguised herself so well that when she ran into an old master of hers, he didnt even recognize her. Back

Finally… into the free land Tubman escaped from slavery in the year When she became free, she joined an abolitionist group. Later after she was free, she returned to Maryland to help the rest of her family escape as well along with some other slaves. That is when she became known as an Underground Railroad conductor. Before she ran away, she had a harsh childhood. When she once tried to help a slave escape, she was struck in the head and was given brain damage and periodically blacked out. Later, she grew old and died of pneumonia. Back
