Overview Food & Drink Manufacturing Qualification

Welcome and Introduction Overview of Food & Drink Manufacturing Excellence Qualification Food Manufacturing Excellence at Levels 2 and 3 are a suite of proficiency qualifications which offer companies working in food manufacturing the ability to implement a sustainable, continuous improvement This suite of FME qualifications is suitable for food operatives, supervisors and managers working in a food supply chain business FME enables candidates to work and train in project teams to develop the critical skills and knowledge to deliver business improvement and sustainable growth through change management

Qualification Content SVQ Certificate for Food and Drink Operations (Food Manufacturing Excellence) Level 3   Award Structure: You will complete a minimum of 10 units to successfully complete your Modern Apprenticeship at SVQ Level 3.

Benefits of the Qualification The level 2 FME qualification is most suitable for operatives who are working in businesses that are undergoing improvement, and who want to develop basic skills in change management, working with others and the lean tools and techniques necessary to support improvement. The level 3 FME qualification is most suitable for improvement/lean project team leaders or supervisors who are responsible for implementation and control of the activity.

What you will learn These qualifications will help support the development of your skills in areas recognised as critical to achieving sustainable lean practices such as change management, and leadership. These qualifications integrate with your company’s ambition to operate quality production practices such as lean manufacturing and six sigma.

How you will learn it We have taken a Blended Learning approach which includes Off the Job Workshops, 1:1 Training & On and Off the job projects You will be assigned a Training Advisor who will visit you at your workplace on a regular basis to support, advise, guide and facilitate workshops and individual one to one learning and development

How you will be assessed Assessment of this award will be through a series of knowledge based and work based practical assessments or tasks and projects. Methods of assessment can include: Observation, discussion, personal statements, projects, testimonies, video and supporting documentation.

Delivery of SVQ to Highland Spring FME qualifications were delivered over 6 group sessions using training materials that covered the current units of learning. One to ones with the candidates. Contact with candidates throughout the course via telephone and e-mail. Candidates were allotted time by the company to work on their questions, personal statements, projects and to generate company evidence. Candidates from different levels and different departments worked together on the projects and presented their findings back to the Highland Spring Senior Management team.

Now over to you John McCusker – Shift Manager Highland Spring Craig Nicholson – Graduate Engineer Highland Spring Who both completed an FME SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship Craig to talk about his conversation with the SQA auditor last year where he stated that he learned more on the job doing this qualification on site through Scottish Bakers than what he had learned at University!

Project Scope & Evaluation Gain energy savings for the site Creation of machine shut-down procedures for Line 10 Identify training and awareness needs on-site Develop and brief training plan as appropriate Install energy monitoring equipment to kit Quantify on savings .

Potential Savings… If shutdown procedures are adhered to, potential saving in 2018 of circa £38k This is only possible if shutdown procedures are completed EVERY shift

Long Term Benefits of a standardised approach! Longer term plan to roll out standardised approach to other Lines on this site and other company sites Adherence to SOPs to be monitored and controlled Sign off log sheets to be kept as evidence SOP for Shutdowns to be developed Line by Line

Benefits of FME Modern Apprenticeship Increased Lean Awareness on site Ability to control our manufacturing processes better and reduce waste Better knowledge and understanding of working as part of a team and on the overall business and not “Blinkered” to a particular job. Increased confidence in putting ideas and potential workplace benefits forward, increased accountability and responsibility for my actions!
