What do you need to know about enrollment at DPS? Grades K-12: A student is guaranteed a seat at their boundary school that is associated with their address. ECE3 & ECE4: NOT guaranteed. Enrollment based on space available. How do you find out: DPS School Finder Call your Enrollment Representative Warn veterans that we will go over info for Choice -Parking lot for questions, will be available after training, some may be answered in Newsletter -Chromebooks going home with you

What is SchoolChoice? SchoolChoice was created in an effort to provide an equitable process to access schools for all Denver families. 5 school options, 1 online application, 1 deadline Electronic lottery process. Students are awarded a seat at their highest preference school with an available seat. If their highest preference school is not available, they are placed on a live waitlist.

Who Should Participate in SchoolChoice? All transitioning students for the 18-19 school year: ECE3, ECE4, and Kinder applicants 5th graders going to 6th grade 8th graders going to 9th grade Any current DPS student wanting to attend a different DPS school for 18-19 school year. Any new student wanting to attend a DPS school. SchoolChoice begins February 1, 2018! -Clarify that all students in a terminal grade (5th & 8th) should participate in SchoolChoice. Does not apply for some K-12. Know your roll rules! -Make sure to use the Student ID/Parent Portal Account or Parent Person ID if available! (Red Carpet Treatment)

Enrollment Zones/Shared Boundary No single school is assigned to a particular address. There are multiple schools in that zone. Student must participate in the online SchoolChoice process to select a school. Student will receive a seat at one of the schools in the shared boundary depending on family preference and availability. Office Staff will have a copy of the Enrollment zone sheet (lists all zones and what schools compose the zone)

Qualification Schools Some schools will require additional steps for enrollment. Examples: Dual language schools Highly Gifted and Talented programs Denver School of the Arts TJ’s CCTM Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy

How do families research schools in DPS? Consider the neighborhood school Research options: DPS School Finder Enrollment Guide Regional Expos Visit Schools, Tours, Open Houses The online SchoolChoice application must be completed and submitted by 4:00PM on February 28, 2018. Check out the Finder! Make sure your profile and website is up to date! Finder can compare schools! Online shopping meets education >:)

SchoolChoice Application Reminders New Students: Families will need to upload: Proof of address with service address Proof of birth Current Students: Document upload not required unless there has been an address change. These documents are not required to submit a Choice application but ARE required for registration.

Post Round 1 Updates Round 1 Notifications: Round 2: Early April Families will be notified by letters and emails/texts. Last year for paper letters! Round 2: April – August, 2018 Families will use the Choice online application to participate in Round 2. 1st come, 1st served basis. Training on the new live waitlist features will take place in March.

Important Dates DATES: INFO: January – February School Tours, Open Houses, Information Nights. February 1, 2018 SchoolChoice Round 1 Begins! February 28, 2018 Last day to complete the online application is 4:00pm! Families will not be able to submit applications after this deadline. Early April Families are notified of their school assignment. Mid-April SchoolChoice Round 2 begins. The online SchoolChoice application will be available for families.

3 easy steps Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Student information from SchoolMint application is uploaded into Staff Processing in IC for New and Inactive students. Step 2: Choice reviews and processes Staff Processing Application and received documents. Step 3: Student data and docs are entered/updated/uploaded into IC and Choice enters 901 enrollment.
