Today’s training 3 Sections Expeditions Kit List Any Questions?

Overview of today’s training: Registration and setting of expectations. Campcraft. Map Reading and Route Planning. Emergency Procedures, First Aid, Health & Hygiene. Supervised walk. Cooking lunch and clearing up.

3 Sections: Volunteering Physical Skills Students should have completed the majority of their work towards these 3 sections. Failure to complete these will jeopardise their places on expeditions. Students are aware of this and have been reminded on numerous occasions. Now need to upload evidence and assessors reports to eDofE.

Expeditions: Practice Expedition: 13th & 14th May. Pick up and return from Monks Walk School. Drop off at 8.30am Saturday. Collect by 4pm Sunday. Assessed Expeditions: 10th & 11th June. Pick up and return from Tring Station. HP23 5QP. Drop off at 11am in Tring. Pick up by 4pm in Tring.

Equipment and Kit The kit list and kit guide is all available on the DofE website. Monk’s Walk will provide some of the equipment – students have to take responsibility for this. Students will be required to sign for the kit they take and will need to replace or pay for lost or damaged items. Kit list – if it is not on the list don’t bring it – jeans, hoodies, onesies, jogging bottoms, hot pants, fixed blade knives, basketballs, golf umbrellas, guitars……… We have several arrangements with local retailers – take MWS DofE T Shirt as proof of participation.

Kit Discounts: Countryside Ski & Climb, 118 – 120 High Street, Stevenage Old Town. Free Boot Hire. 15% Discount on other kit – Produce DofE T Shirt. PJ Campnig Notcutts Garden Centre, Hatfield Road, St Albans. 20% Discount – Produce DofE T shirt. 91 Victoria Street, St Albans – 15% Discount. Discount Card in DofE Student Pack.

Attendance at school after the expeditions is obligatory. An aching back, tiredness and blisters are not a reason to be off school. Do not allow your child to convince you otherwise. If students are genuinely ill I will request proof of a medical appointment. Any lessons missed, regardless of reason, will need to be fully caught up using after school sessions – they might as well attend in the first place. If your child cannot combine the rigours of DofE with school then their place on the assessed expedition, or future awards will be in doubt.

What next: Students will need to complete 3 sections. Upload evidence and assessors report. Work with their team to plan expeditions : Roles and Responsibilities Routes Menus Equipment Expedition Project I will be arranging meetings with each group over the next few weeks – these will be after school. They must attend. Please take copy of kit list, emergency contact card & boot hire leaflet.
