What is Cubism? Cubism was a 20th century art movement, pioneered by Pablo Picasso.

Cubist artist are different from “typical” artists because… Cubist artists were able to paint an object from multiple angles at the same time in order to represent it in the most complete way possible.

What does Cubism have to do with Speak? Melinda is first introduced to Cubism in art class with Mr. Freeman. He hands her a book on Picasso in order to give her inspiration. Why do you think he did that? How is it a metaphor for her?

RESPOND : Study this painting called, “Girl Before A Mirror”, painted by Picasso in 1932. Write silently for the next 4 minutes about how this painting could be an accurate representation of Melinda. Be specific and address individual features of the piece.
