Assess experience you’re lacking and fill in gaps with volunteering, clubs, internships.. Consider applying for a summer job or internship between your 3rd and 4th year. SEEK OUT CONNECTIONS Consider volunteering with a community organization related to engineering. The NDSU Volunteer Network can help you find opportunities. Get involved with the student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Do some targeted networking with alumni working in careers of interest by joining engineering groups on LinkedIn. Consider joining professional associations such as ASME. CONSIDER A SUMMER JOB OR INTERNSHIP Join groups on LinkedIn reflecting specific careers or topics of interest in Mechanical Engineering. Start or continue volunteering with organizations related to engineering UNDERSTAND BROADER PERSPECTIVES Visit the Study Abroad office to explore potential overseas study options. Start thinking about where you would like to study or intern abroad if this is an interest. Talk with a Peer Mentor in the Study Abroad Office. Study or intern abroad, if relevant. Prepare for work or studies in a foreign country and research possible visa regulations. Build your intercultural competence by getting involved with other cultures or by improving your language skills. Submit application for abroad opportunity, if relevant. GO!
