Genval EAII Discussion EAII breakout team Co-Chairs: Andre Maizener, ex-EdF (utility)(anjen.ùaizener@wanadoo.fr) and Harry Garton, Xtensible Solutions (vendor) hgarton@xtensible.net

Original Mission statement The EAI forum’s goal to drive the understanding and implementation of CIM messages to support efficient and effective communication of the interconnected electric power networks in North America and Europe. Establish a professional forum for the exchange of information and best practices for customers and vendors to the exchange of IEC CIM information. Provide feedback to the IEC Working Groups (13 and 14) on proposals, papers, and business issues related to message exchange of the IEC CIM. Provide real-world experience and business requirements for enterprise application integration for IEC CIM information and exchange. Communicate and raise awareness of EAI issues to vendors and customers using IEC CIM information and messaging. Investigate and disseminate information and best practices in message exchange technology relevant to IEC CIM.

What has been achieved so far Interesting interactive meetings from the beginning Attempt to capture works from various WG 13,14,16 A common acknowlegment of the need for a formalised methodology A workshop in Mineapolis On the minus side: the group exists only during meetings

EAII WG Redmond notes Very interactive meeting In detail presentation by JL Sanson of last updates of UN/CFACT technology For WG16 European TF. Model EA nearly ready for integration in CIM files. => do an automatisation process manually first Vivid discussion among participants sharing their experiences: Choice of tools must be adapted to the purpose. RSA great tool for following development life cycle but expensive Systems description reach e certain level of complexity and requires abstraction of Business process SAP plays a rôle in many organisation but does not expose its Information model. That may be overcome by services API. SAP should be treated as an application among others Several questions need more investigation and could be subject for next meetings What is the exact definition of a « context » or « profile » How can we harmonize model between CIM and WG17 work.

Some points Tools and methodology are interrelated People interested in methodology and tools are often the same From Kendall Demaree (aproximate quote) First are the needs There should be a methodology to fulfil the purpose The tools should follow the methodology and respond to the needs

discussion In Genval the two groups « EAII » and « Tools » are going to meet together Should the merger be permanent ? If yes we need to adjust the charter to appoint 2 co-chairs
