College Readiness Progress Acknowledge that students have Ramp Up almost every Wednesday throughout the year This activity allows us to put in place the people, tools, programs, and strategies that contribute to all students becoming college and career ready by graduation. MCIS, Readiness Rubric, Post-Secondary Plan, Transcript, PLAN results.

MCIS (Minnesota Career Information System) A computer information system that is an excellent resource providing teachers with another tool to help engage kids in the college readiness process It monitors college readiness outcomes and, regardless of your score, fosters college and career readiness for all students. Students can access it any time any place as long as you have Internet access. MCIS is a college and career exploration program that is used in Ramp Up. Students will continue to use MCIS in Ramp Up through high school and they will use this program extensively in Career Exploration when they are Juniors when they will have much more time to explore careers and look at college options based upon their career thoughts. Parents can go to this website to see information on college and career readiness as well as an overview of the program and what each grade level is doing each month in Ramp Up. A grade-specific Readiness Rubric helps students and their families, teachers and counselors regularly compare data on tests, grade point averages and other indicators to assess and take steps to improve a student's progress toward being college-ready by the end of high school. Teachers: Have parents/students find the Readiness Rubric in their child’s folder. Students have filled in checkpoints 1-2 for all readiness areas. Academic Belief can be a big factor in success. It is important for students to believe that they can be successful in their chosen classes and career.

The bottom portion of this page is an area where the students have filled in their self management and effort and persistence evaluations. These have a direct effect on success in the classroom. Sophomores should also have their PLAN scores filled in as all 10th graders took the PLAN test this year and received their results in Ramp Up. Your child’s results should be in their folder on a paper they filled out and they were supposed to take the actual results home with them to show you. The PLAN score gives you information on what your child’s projected ACT score will be in 2 years based upon what they currently know. The PLAN results also gave students a list of possible careers of interest.

The students answered these top two questions based off of the information from the front page and have set 3 SMART goals.

Teachers: Have parents/students find the Postsecondary Plan in their child’s folder. The top portion of the first page should have some careers listed that your student has considered. Not all of these sections will be completed as a 10th grader. This document will continue to build with the student throughout high school.

Students filled this section out at the bottom of the first page by recording all of their classes and grades they had in 9th grade and so far in 10th grade and those they are taking 2nd semester. They should list classes that they would like to register for in the 11th grade column. Students should make sure to consider what classes the career they are interested in suggests that they take in high school along with making sure they register to take required classes. One required class that all 11th graders will take is Career Exploration or Medical Career Exploration. Students will have the opportunity in this required course to spend more time exploring careers and considering what post-secondary education that is needed to achieve their chosen career. They will also be preparing work prep documents like a resume and cover letter and looking for scholarships that they can apply for Junior and Senior year.

The top section of the back is to get the students thinking about how they are preparing to pay for college. These answers could change throughout the next two years of their high school career.

The bottom portion of the back page the students wrote down what activities/organizations they are involved with in and out of school in 9th and 10th grade. The bottom section was completed by taking their results from a survey they have completed in class using MCIS to identify their personality type. They should also have some interests and strengths listed. All of these are important in choosing a future career that will be a good fit for students.

In School Options Academic Intervention/Lunch Hour Teachers are available for ½ of the lunch hour to help any student. Students with a D or lower are required to work with a teacher for 30 minutes of their lunch hour. Student should check with their teachers to see which half of lunch they are available to help. After School Options After School Academic Support This is a place for students to work on their homework, use computers for school related projects, and get assistance on homework. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:45 in A250 After Hours Credit Recovery: M, T, TH, F 3:15-4:45 and W, 2:30-4:00.  Students can earn up to .5 credit in each term while utilizing our on-line learning program that offers a variety of core and elective based classes. Students should contact their counselor to schedule this if needed.  After School Options

Students who are credit deficient may attend summer school classes. A maximum of one semester or two quarter courses will be able to be repeated during summer school. Refer to the course registration book that your child has received 4 year planner The course registration guide has descriptions of all courses, flow charts from each department and a 4 year planner. PLAN Worksheet Consider your students PLAN Worksheet when considering what classes to request for Junior year. This sheet should be filled out and in their folder along with a copy of their PLAN results, unless they took them home. If your child took it home and did not share it with you; ask them to see it. The courses your student takes could help to improve his or her projected ACT score when they take the ACT.

Refer to the course cluster wheel to help select electives in career interest areas. This career pathway wheel is in the front of the registration book after the Table of Contents.
